Charlie The Tramp Children’s Story Book ; Giveaway

We are adding in, new stories to our weekly reads. Adding in new and varied stories for kids keeps the excitement for reading alive. So this time around we read  Russell Hoban’s books, Charlie the Tramp. This classic children story was first written in 1966 and has been re-released in a beautiful 50th-anniversary edition.

Charlie The Tramp Children's Story Book

In this delightful little book Charlie the Tramp, Charlie, a beaver, decides he wants to become a tramp. Like any young kid, Charlie thinks that if he becomes a tramp he could just tramp around and have a good time. He doesn’t have to learn to chop down trees, roll logs, or build dams.  Tramps carry sticks with little bundles tied to them. They sleep in a field when the weather is beautiful, and when it rains, they sleep in a barn. So Charlie rather wants to do all these little things a tramp does and have lots of fun than do the chores at home.

Initially, Charlie’s dad hesitates but lets Charlie go out and explore the world. So Charlie sets off with his bundle. For a couple of days, Charlie goes out and sleeps in the field in the beautiful weather and would come home in the morning and then he goes out again.

He continues his adventure for few days.  But one day when hears water trickling, he can’t get himself to sleep. As any beaver, he cannot resist the urge to make the trickling stop, so he goes around and builds a dam and stops the tickling. Through his experience, Charlie learns that being who he was supposed to be wasn’t so bad after all.

This book is a great read for parents as well as it sends out a message that sometimes it’s ok, to let kids explore what they want to and let them learn through their experiences.
