Basic Computer and Coding Book for Kids

Computers and Coding. They are the basics that kids need to learn in this 21st century. It’s like learning alphabets and phonics. Very important and very critical. Schools do a great job of introducing the basics of computer and coding to kids. But I wanted a super simple book that could really explain what’s inside a computer and what is coding all about.

Well, I found a super simple and fun book exactly for that. The book is called Lift the Flap Computer and Coding by Usborne. I bought this book for my son when he was 7 years old. The book brings a really difficult topic to a level where children can understand. The book has flaps to lift on every page that reveal what goes on inside a computer, how coding works and how computers talk to each other across the internet.

The principles of coding, from simple commands to algorithms, are explained with a treasure hunt game and puzzles, and there are examples of programs in the coding language Scratch. Includes internet links to specially selected websites where children can discover more coding ideas, tips, and games.

With its equal mix of quirky facts and puzzles to try, Lift-the-flap Computers and Coding provides a whole new technique for learning how computer coding runs. Not only will it help readers understand how coding works, it also answers questions as to why it works the way it does.

Even binary is covered, and in a very straightforward way. It’s a great book, one that even an expert coders will enjoy!  The book teaches kids starting from basic mechanical bits to the Internet.

Below is the attached PDF/worksheet- fun internet icon questions for kids.

Overall the book Lift the Flap Computer and Coding by Usborne demonstrates an otherwise abstract and intimidating area within STEM, programming, in a fun and engaging way. The lift flaps, illustrations, and analogies are memorable.
