An opportunity to mentor an all-girl team for a Tech challenge inspired Madhu to transition from her career as a Hardware Engineer at Intel where she worked for 10 years to an entrepreneur and founder of Pretty Pokets

As a founder of Pretty Pokets, Madhu is on a mission to add incredible value to women’s life by designing and creating intentional products that find harmony between usefulness, common sense, and fashion.

Madhu lives in North Carolina with her two children, her husband, and Teddy their pampered golden retriever puppy.

My Story

20 years ago in 2002, I came to the United States of America for my Master's program. It was just surreal because I was a girl who had never gone to a different city alone, and there I was moving to a different country. Well, not only to a new country but a new continent. I am thankful for my parents who believed in me and let me pursue my education and dreams in America. I finished my Master's program in 2004 and worked for Corporate America until 2016.

I was the first one and launched a career as a hardware engineer in Intel Corporation in the amazing Silicon Valley tech industry. Fast forward, I got married, gave birth to my son, and continue working after my son was born. Life became a balancing act between “work-life” and “mom-with-baby” in the fast-paced tech world.

While working as a hardware engineer, I had an opportunity to mentor a girl’s team for a Tech Challenge(2014). Teaming with young ladies in the design process just reignited my creative spirit. Thus, I started working on coming up with a solution for a personal pain point I had as a new mom. I wanted a diaper bag that is practical and elegant! When I could not find one I decided to make one. Fast forward a second time, I transitioned from the corporate world and entered the entrepreneurial world in January 2016. Precisely after a year, in January 2017, I launched my diaper bag.

Funds from the crowdfunding platform helped me fund my first product line production, and thus, went from being an Engineer to a Bag designer(Well, initially Diaper Bag Designer!).

I started the business with six products, and now we have double the number of products to serve a broader category of women’s accessories. As of today, I am happy to say that Pretty Pokets is quickly gaining momentum and attention and is loved by many amazing women. Pretty Pokets Diaper bag is the winner of multiple awards including Baby Retailer Magazine “2020 Top Choice Award” in the Diaper Bag Category, Creative Child Magazine “2020 Product of the Year Award” in the Baby Travel Aids Category, and was also recognized by popular media platforms like BuzzFeed, POPSUGAR, Bay Area Parents, etc. The bag was also the finalist of the 2019 Eco-excellence awards.

I am slowly building the brand one brick at a time. 2020 was a challenging year but I launched three new product lines.
I firmly believe that women need accessories that provide confidence and simplify their day-to-day lives while adding much-needed style. At Pretty Pokets, it’s my mission to add incredible value to women’s life by designing and creating intentional products that find harmony between usefulness, common sense, and fashion.
